(3/28/16)
ONE OF THE MOST ABHORRENT SINS IS DISHONORING A PARENT

I say this because...

*
God included it in His Ten Commandments,
* Jesus repeated it and
* Paul addressed it.

* Also notice, it connects the commandments concerning our relationship with God, to the commandments concerning our relationship with human beings.

This is because the respect and honor we have for parents indicates the respect and honor we have for God (and vicaversa).

I cannot imagine disrespecting a parent. In fact, I believe that when I was younger, if I had a brother demean our parent, I would have "knocked the living snot out of him."

I am not saying it would have been the right thing to do. But i did not always do the right thing as a young person.

* I have yet to see a Christian who dishonors a parent. You can tell a person's relationship with God by the attitude they have towards their parent.

*
Remember, the parent is God's first authority in a child's life. Submission, love, respect for God is based on the child's view of his/her parent.

We never get old enough to disrespect a parent.

Repentance and heart felt remorse are essential for a person to be to reconcile with a parent. If you choose to be alienated from a parent, you choose to be the enemy of God.

If the parent is not a Christian, then reconciliation may not be possible. But a parent's sin does not excuse anyone for disrespectful behavior.
