06/1616 WE CAN'T SMELL OURSELVES

06/1616 WE CAN'T SMELL OURSELVES

B.O. and Halitosis are like self righteousness and pride. They are offensive to everyone except the person who has it.

The Darlings (of Mayberry) made reference to one of their favorite songs, which was entitled, DIRTY ME, DIRTY ME, I'M DISGUSTED WITH MYSELF. hehehe That was a funny line.

Some folks say that "Halitosis is better than no breath at all."

It is also true that some folks won't bathe until they can smell their own B.O. By that time everyone else around them has stopped breathing in their presence. It is better to realize that the body needs washing on a regular basis, or at least realize that when other people indicate that you are a little ripe, or at least when someone finally tells you that you stink (or calls you ROSE), it is better to take heed to these indicators than to wait until you smell yourself.

Again, there is a spiritual application. If people wait until their own sins offend them, they may never come to the point of repentance and restoration and reconciliation. Or, they may finally come to salvation, but they will leave in their wake, disaster and destruction that can never be rectified.

This is why God gives us truth through preaching, teaching and counsel. To miss the directives of God is haughty selfishness.
