I read a book over forty years ago that addressed this issue entitled,
"DAMNED THROUGH THE CHURCH." I was not crazy about the title of John Warwick Montgomery's book when I started to read it in 1970. However, his point was that through the years, people had turned to sacramentalsm, rationalism, orthodoxy, and politics in the Church, and more recently they have turned to activism, subjectivism and ecumenicism. In other words, people were trusting in human inventions, or demonic versions of legitimate principles. His objective was to turn people back to Christ and the Bible. It was a good book, to which I often made reference.
Sadly, people have continued to substitute the grace and truth of God with other ideas. And there are plenty of ideas around, such as the popular heresy of the EMERGENT movement. However, the answer to human problems can only be found in Christ and His word.
One reason for the plethora of futile paths is the lack of understanding, the lack of knowledge that people have concerning the Bible.
Another reason is that people like the idea of being God and therefore they replace God's word with their own word.
This is why they attack the things that they don't like personally, and condemn anyone who does not have the same "light" that they have.
Or, this is why others only attack Bible believing, Christ centered, Holy Spirit led Christians.
They consider themselves to be "liberal" and "open minded," while condemning Bible believers.
Satan will lead people down any path, as long as it is not the path of Biblical truth.
Choose your path carefully. There is destination to every pathway. Choose Jesus. He is the only way to the Father. Choose the Bible, it is the only revelation of God.
