DON'T READ THIS IF YOU WANT TO CELEBRATE BUNNIES AND EGGS INSTEAD OF THE VIOLENT DEATH AND GLORIOUS RESURRECTION OF CHRIST
We are approaching that time of year when non-believers feel compelled to attend church (and they are not sure why), and when believers (?) feel compelled to honor pagan fertility gods and goddesses and fertility symbols and rituals (and they don't know why).
Oh well, to each his own.
But at least consider this. Instead of honoring pagan gods, goddesses, symbols and rituals this year, why not celebrate the Resurrection of Christ exclusively?
Don't you think that the greatest event in the history of entire universe (the resurrection of God's Son, Jesus Christ from the dead, for the salvation of lost humanity) is important enough, spectacular enough, significant enough, appealing enough, awe inspiring enough to stand on its own?
Don't you think that God can ignite the hearts of little boys and girls with the celebration of His victory over sin and death, enough, to captivate, enthrall, draw and hold them, without the pagan regalia?
Or do you really think that your children are so intellectually diminished and spiritually bankrupt that God cannot draw them to Himself. Remember, Jesus said that if we would lift Him up, as Moses lifted the serpent in the wilderness, He would draw all men to Himself. I don't think Moses celebrated the promised deliverance of God, by displaying pagan symbols and observing pagan rituals. I don't remember the children hunting for eggs, as their parents fell, dying, until they would LOOK AND LIVE.
When it comes to churches not reaching the children with the gospel, not inflaming the hearts and minds of young people with the power of God to save them from all sins, it is not so much that, "they have not, because they ask not," but rather, they don't have children swept into the kingdom of God and delivered from the shackles of sin because those churches are distracting the children with amusements when they need to be alarmingly pointing them to the atonement.
Jesus would not celebrate His resurrection by lifting up fertility symbols. Jesus would not mislead the children with pagan pageantry. Neither should we.
