BLASPHEMY AGAINST THE HOLY SPIRIT
(Don't worry about the rantings of Muslims when they accuse people of blaspheming their god, their founder, their book or their religion. God, the true and living God of the Holy Bible, does not condemned anyone for speaking against false religions. However, the rabid Muslim will kill in the name of his false god.)
We don't hear much about BLASPHEMY AGAINST THE HOLY SPIRIT these days, but this is a sin that cannot be forgiven. See what Jesus said.
Matthew 12:31-32
(31) Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.
(32) And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.
"Blasphemy" is "speaking against." Remember, the Holy Spirit is a Divine Person; He is one of the three Persons in the Triune Godhead. Though there is only one God, God is Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Let me point out, it is never good to speak against God in any fashion, but there is a reason that speaking against the Holy Spirit is especially dangerous. He is the One who comes to us, enlightens us, convicts us, invites us, and enables us to believe in Christ as Savior. When you cut yourself off from the Holy Spirit, you have cut yourself off from your only connection with God and your only hope for salvation.
Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is not a simple slip of the tongue or even a well intentioned, but errant, comment concerning the doctrine, work or nature of the Holy Spirit. Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is a deliberate, proud, antagonistic and impious verbal attack against the Holy Spirit.
HE IS A PERSON
The person who blasphemes the Holy Spirit is the person who has repeatedly resisted, rejected and ridiculed the Holy Spirit. It is the person who has made himself a mortal enemy of God and rebuffs God's Spirit.
All sins are against the Holy Spirit, because all sins are against God and the Holy Spirit is God. However, there are specific sins which are raised against the Holy Spirit, and the committing of these sins against Him lead to the final cutting-off.
#1 Quenching the Holy Spirit
1 Thessalonians 5:19
(19) Quench not the Spirit.
DLG... Quenching the Holy Spirit is to react negatively to the leading, prompting, calling, ministry, work of the Holy Spirit in our lives. He is the Fire of God. This can be a seemingly harmless choice that leads to further acts of extinguishing the Fire of God. I have seen lives of Christians with great potential thwarted, ruined by simply quenching the Holy Spirit.
Quenching is basically refusing the work of the Holy Spirit.
#2 Grieving the Holy Spirit
Ephesians 4:30
(30) And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
DLG... Grieving the Holy Spirit is to offend Him, to insult Him. He can be hurt, offended, insulted, dishonored by our words, thoughts and deeds. We know the things that offend Him by understanding Him, as a Person. He is holy, spiritual, wise, gracious, incendiary, eternal, truthful, living, peaceful, unifying, therefore to do anything that opposes these characteristics will offend Him.
Grieving (offending) is basically choosing that which is contrary to the nature and work of the Holy Spirit.
#3 Resisting the Holy Spirit
Acts 7:51
(51) Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do ye.
DLG... Resisting the Holy Spirit is to oppose Him, to fall against Him, openly rebel against Him, to attack Him.
Resisting is basically to treat as an enemy.
Be careful from the beginning. Your first steps can determine your ultimate destination.
* Never refuse or demean or take lightly the work of the Holy Spirit in your life, because it can lead to a life that has very little spiritual worth.
* Never do anything that is contrary to the nature, work, will of the Holy Spirit, because the next act of resistance will be easier.
* Never take issue with the Holy Spirit, never question the Holy Spirit, never denounce the Holy Spirit, because your own heart will be hardened, maybe to the point of no return.
SECOND
FAILURE TO REPENT
We must REPENT, turn from, all sin in our lives. Unrepented sin is unforgiven sin. If we do not repent of our sin, God will not unilaterally forgive our sins. Failure to repent is the express route to blasphemy.
Daily walking in the light is required for victorious living and eternal life.
NEVER SAY NO TO GOD.
ALWAYS LIVE IN THE SPIRIT.
